I have some mkv files which contain a subtitle track that I’d like to extract as an srt file. Is this doable with ffmpeg? I also have access to vlc if that helps, but I can’t installl any other software right now because my wifi went out (typing this on mobile). The specified command-line would have been perfectly fine if the subtitles from the source video were encoded in a text-based representation. However, as can be seen in the output to the ffmpeg -icommand-line, the subtitles are encoded in the 'dvdsubtitle' format. The dvdsubtitle format stores bitmaps for each subtitle in the video. Does any body know how to extract subtitles from a dvd or a vob file with ffmpeg? I could get fine working.sub and.idx files via mencoder command: mencoder dvd://1 -vobsubout subtitle -vobsuboutindex 0 -vobsuboutid it -sid 10 -nosound -ovc copy -o 1.avi but i get a huge temporary file (1.avi) witch is the entire video stream. Select a DVD Source. To extract subtitles from DVD, insert a DVD disc into the DVD ROM drive. Then launch this program and click on 'DVD Disc' to load the DVD source. It also supports ISO Image and DVD Folder input.
